Hello Friends of Sound!
I’m listening now to guitarist Earl Klugh with his unique touch. His sonic landscape is irresistible and this makes for a good moment as I write to you.
We are playing live coming up in a few days and first up, we’ll be laying down the law in Solana Beach at the North Coast Rep for an unprecedented two nights of music in a row. We get to leave the gear setup and this alone is something to celebrate.
It’ll be me along with Leonard Patton on vocals and percussion, Danny Green on piano, and Mack Leighton wielding the big bass. We play on both Monday and Tuesday nights and the music will be our unique angle on The Beatles, Cream, Nat King Cole, Hoagy Carmichael, and Ivan Lins.
Look below for the details and we hope to see you there…
On Wednesday evening I’m joining pianist Geoffrey Keezer, vocalist Gillian Margo, and bassist Ben Williams for a magical night of music in La Jolla at The Athenaeum. Both Geoffrey and Gillian lived in San Diego for a spell and we had some great moments of music. They are crazy good! Their song list is a wonderful blend of jazz standards, Peter Gabriel, Thelonious Monk, and a few originals. Hope to see you there…
For this week’s new vid release here you go with a visit to the soundstage of Earl Klugh.
“Dr. Macumba” is one of the stand out tracks from Earl’s 1977 album Finger Painting and it’s samba groove and flowing melody still sound fresh today.
This performance is from a livestream concert that we played in September 2024.
Here’s the band:
Peter Sprague — guitar
Danny Green — piano
Justin Grinnell — bass
Duncan Moore — drums
