Hey Fine Folks, me and my family just got back from a week in Hawaii totally unplugging from the beautiful grind that is life here in Cali at SpragueLand. We stayed in Honolulu right at Waikiki beach and swam, ate killer food (Banzai Acai bowls), walked and looked, and enjoyed the company of each other. My cousin Nick and his family live close and we had an evening of transcendental pizza with the aloha spirit mixed in.
We even drove over to the North Shore and watched 10 foot maxing Pipeline barrels exploding on the reef with 80 insane surfers holding on for dear life. What a moment!
The vid release for this week is “Mambo Lido.”
Dave Grusin composed this song and his music was used as the soundtrack for a movie called “Havana.” His blend of jazz and salsa is supreme and check out the percolating piano montuno break with wicked accents coming from the drums and bass — classic sonic move!
This performance is from a livestream concert that we played in September 2024.
It’s included on our album “Hurricane Country — Peter Sprague Plays Grusin & Klugh” now available on all streaming platforms.
Here’s the band:
Peter Sprague — guitar
Danny Green — piano
Justin Grinnell — bass
Duncan Moore — drums
Tripp Sprague — flute
We’re going live in realtime tomorrow night at Ki’s Restaurant in Cardiff. It’ll be me with Danny on piano and Justin on bass. It’s a fun hang at this spot with great food and an expansive ocean view. The music should be good too!
There it is friends and thanks for tuning in, best, Peter
