H i Friends,
The heat is now officially ON and I’m loving it. Early morning surf, sun out right from the start, the wild blue’s temperature is up, and the tree music from the gentle wind is supplying the soundtrack.
In looking back over the 36 episodes of the Live(ish) From SpragueLand livestream concerts spanning 2 years, the true highpoint of a performance might be this one —the Blind Faith song “Can’t Find My Way Home” with Leonard singing and setting the whole studio on fire. It starts off with him singing in a low register and continues to build until the final vamp section at the end where he’s up high and fully channeling his gospel roots. It’s one of our great moments of music!
Here’s the band:
Peter Sprague — guitar
Leonard Patton — vocals
Mack Leighton — bass
Duncan Moore — drums
Tripp Sprague — piano
Here’s the video:
This song is on our album “Sunshine Of Your Love — Peter Sprague Plays Cream” now available on all streaming platforms and on my webstore.
We’re playing live this week on Sunday at the Scripps Ranch Library. The concert is at 2:30 pm and admission is free. It’s Justin on bass, Danny on piano, and I’m on the guitar. Super fun!
Speaking of Danny Green, this week the local music paper The San Diego Troubadour did a big cover article on him chronicling his early roots playing guitar in a Ska band all the way up to now where he’s “el jazz primavera” playing all over town including in my own band for gigs and recording. He’s really something on so many levels and I’m so happy for him to receive this super positive attention.

I am really excited about my friend Dan Atkinson’s latest project, the new San Diego Tijuana International Jazz Festival. Don’t miss it, in particular the opening night on October 4 at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido. The lineup features Cindy Blackman Santana, Gerald Clayton, Magos Herrera, and the Gilbert Castellanos All-Star Sextet.
Check out https://sdtjjazz.org for more info. And use this code, JAZZ15, for a 15% discount on tickets to October 4.
So far I’m free that night and maybe I’ll see you there!
There it is friends and see you soon, Peter
