It’s been an AI exploration, surfing, and song writing blendo over here at SpragueLand.
Let me explain…
First up, here’s an exceptional documentary about AI that Stef and I just watched and it blew our minds.
It illustrates both how cool and how bad AI might turn out. It’s really informative at the least.
Also on the AI front, our very own Digital Brian is working on an app that will help streamline the dreaded activity of finding a workable rehearsal date for 8 very busy musos. He’s got a prototype going (built largely by Claude Coding) and it’s working and just needs some last minute tweaks. It can’t arrive too soon…
The surf continues on and here’s a wave I caught last week, playing the melody of the ocean.
I’ve been writing a couple of new songs and it’ll be fun to hear them in realtime 3D. I’ll let you know when they’re ready to roll.
We’re going live at the Point Loma Hervey Library next Monday 7/27. The trio rides again with Danny Green on piano and Mack Leighton on bass. Good times with these guys and please join in if you can.
We’ve got a new video that just made it’s way into the great expanse of YouTube.
A while back, while preparing for a gig with Allison Adams Tucker, I was learning her arrangement of Cat Stevens’ “The Wind.” I immediately fell in love with the opening chord progression and as I played it through, over and over, I found myself experimenting with new harmonic variations, going down different musical paths. Those explorations eventually led to an original bridge and a James Taylor-ish moment at the end. Once the music was complete, I handed it over to Randy Phillips, who wrote the lyrics.
