Tale of the Torque!

Hi Friends, stripped bolts, power supply mayhem, torque screws, hard drive raid run rampant, complex computer alliterations, it’s all going on over here at SpragueLand. It’s been an iron out tech few days and sometimes that’s the price you pay to run your own recording studio. Reluctantly you put the guitar down and you pick up a wrench instead. A Silicon Valley sage muso once said, “it’s all music.” And the beat and the backups go on…

If it's really just "all music" then this box of torque bits and wacky wrench sockets is a classical composition waiting to happen.

It’s coming right up and tonight we’re playing a show at the Saville Theatre at San Diego City College. It’s part of the Jazz Live series and it’ll also come over live on the radio at 88.1 KSDS. The group is led by vocalist and trombone player Lizzi Trumbore and Leonard Patton is playing percussion, Justin Grinnell on bass and me on guitar. Lizzi’s a super talented young player and tonight we’re also playing some tunes that she’s composed. It’ll be a fun night of music and I hope you can tune in either via the radio or come to the theatre to take it in live.

On Thursday night I’m enthusiastically returning to the Roxy Restaurant in Encinitas for a night of solo guitar. It’s one of my favorite weekly moments getting to play the music I love, getting to hang with creative friends, and taking in some delightful food—it’s a solid combination of all the right things. Hope to see you there and add your vibe into the mix.

Last up for the week will be a Friday night of music at Ki’s Restaurant in Cardiff, looking over the ocean. It’ll be my trio providing the soundtrack and for this evening vocalist Lisa Hightower along with bassist Harley Magsino will be my guests. Lisa has a fantastic angle on music and when we lean into a blues influenced tune you know you’re in the right place. Great food here too!
