Greetings Gifted Friends! I’m in the last stages of the new Peter/Leonard recording project and we’re loving the ride. The music is flowing and we’re forging some new sonic territory. The loop machine is in there creating havoc, distorting when it’s not supposed to, documenting hiccup grooves, all of it highlighting muso inconsistencies, being the guru and showing us what still needs more work. So we jump into another take and, wallah, it’s working this time and yes, if you can’t get it one take do ye another. We’re tracking today again and I think this will be the last session and then it’s on to mixing. Can’t wait to share it with you when it’s complete.
Last Sunday out in rural Ramona vocalist Emily Elbert and I played a killer house concert. The setting was paramount, the folks in attendance were of pure heart and enthusiastic beyond measure, and the music left the earth. Emily is astounding and once again blew my mind! How can such a young muso embody such a sound? Magic in modern life, spinning and defying logic and reason. I’m in! Jobim’s masterful tune “Passarim” just surfaced on YouTube this week via some mysto photographer in the audience from a concert we played at UC Riverside some months ago. It’s Bridget on violin, Lars on cello, and me on guitar. That’s my arrangement and it’s nice hearing it from the audience perspective. Check ‘er out: Gearing up for tonight, it’ll be me playing solo at The Roxy in Encinitas. I’ve got “Birdland” and my brand new Samba tune in the cue list and my hands are in good shape from all of the recording. Big fun and see you there! On Friday night we’ll be at Grossmont College playing a show with Blurring the Edges. It’ll be Fred, Tripp, and I plus N. Scott Robinson on percussion. Recently we played a show at Mesa College and Scott, the percussion instructor there, sat in with us. He played up a storm and he’s a perfect fit for the Blur band. He plays all sorts of ethnic drums, tablas, percussion effects, and has a wonderful spirit of music flowing through. Hear the Blur boys in a new way and see you there tomorrow night! That’s the word from Leucadia and thanks for reading along, all best, Peter |
