Q uanto Tempo Friends of Sound!
Coming to you as I rest up from an early morning rehearsal with the gang. Dig this—the near impossible feat of corralling six ultra busy musos for, first a concert, and then second, a rehearsal. Urgg, out of 8 possible dates we’re lucky if one common date works out. And it works out only because we’re rehearsing from 9am to 12pm and in case you didn’t know, musicians like to sleep in. Hah!
This week we’re living the dream playing 2 different concerts with two totally different music angles. First it’s the music of Carole King and then a night of Stevie Wonder songs. I wish I could invite you along but both gigs are sold out. We’ll do it again downwind.
But here’s a live gig this week in which there’s still room for more folks to join in. On Wednesday night we’re meeting up at the new theatre at Grossmont College to play the repertoire of Blurring the Edges. That’s Fred Benedetti on guitar, Tripp on sax and flute, Mack Leighton on bass, and me on guitar. Our mission statement is to blur the dividing lines of musical styles and warp flamenco, classical, the blues, the samba, and jazz swing together. Big fun and join in if you can. The concert details are below.
Today we’re releasing a new single song vid called “Serrado.”
This tune is written by the great Brazilian artist named Djavan. Ever since we discovered the music of Brazil we immediately fell in love with Djavan’s singing and his songs. They are a cool blend of bossa nova and pop and have supreme rhythmic and harmonic integrity.
On our version of “Serrado” we have Allison singing beautifully in Portuguese. The whole band is cooking along and the interlude after the solos and at the end of the tune finds us all embracing the off beats. “Don’t panic” one musical sage once recommended.
This performance first appeared on our Episode 5 livestream from SpragueLand and here is the link for the whole show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqMockpRk7Q
