Dear Moonlight Sonatians, today is the day that we bring you some more Beatle music with the emergence of All You Need is Love — Peter Sprague Plays The Beatles available on CD and the always controversial streaming services. It’s been brewing over here at SpragueLand for the last few months and finally the details got worked out and the music is lifting off. I’m liking the way it’s sounding and here’s a little of how it came together.
Beatles 101 — I’ve always been attracted to the idea of taking a classic song that has resonance with so many people and then working out a new way to travel sonically. New chords, new road map, perhaps going at an opposite tempo marking, possibly an opposite groove and feel — devices to transport us into a new way of hearing the music.
Hopefully it arrives fresh and for sure being careful to not damage the original gem in the process.
So how do you do it?
First I do the arrangement, next call in the posse of extremely gifted musos that resonate with the album’s directive, then record and video the sessions leading to the final mixes and the actual album release details. Lastly getting the word out to you, our very much appreciative fans and friends.
