River Quay!

Hi Friends, I’ve been working on the Jobim railroad conjuring up new arrangements for a concert next month. Such beauty in sound and it’ll be a hoot to hear the new music in 3D realtime.

For the video this week we’ve got one of Pat Metheny’s classic tunes “River Quay”from the Watercolors album released back in 1977. We of course had heard the tune but this was our first time playing it. The guitar part includes a lot of sweet and cool 3rds in the melody line.

This performance first appeared on our Episode 27 Live(ish) From SpragueLand livestream called Peter Sprague Plays Pat Metheny — Watercolors. Me and the band were gearing up for an actual live gig with Pat in Newport Beach. We took his set list, rehearsed for a few days and then did this livestream show, all in hopes of doing well with Pat himself. The good news is the gig went great and everyone was happy to be in orbit with one of the true masters of jazz.

This is the band:

Peter Sprague — guitar
John Opferkuch — piano
Mack Leighton — bass
Duncan Moore — drums

Going live this week on TONIGHT at the Cal State University San Marcos Theatre at 7pm. It’ll be Allison singing, Danny on piano, Mack on bass, Duncan on drums, and me on guitar. Look below for the details and guaranteed fun ahead!

all the best, Peter
