H i Fine Folks, it’s a good day of summer sun, surf safari, music magic, and fantastic fathers. Happy to be alive!
First up is a north county concert tomorrow night (Monday) at the North Coast Repertory Theatre in Solana Beach. It’ll be Leonard Patton, Danny Green, Mack Leighton, and me playing our blendo of samba, Beatles, Hoagy Carmichael, and Bob Marley. The concert is almost sold out but there are a few seats left. Join in if you can and look below for details…
A new single song vid is broadcasting today!
Cream was a mega band that had a fairly short lifespan. That’s not uncommon and actually a band is a lot like a marriage — the gravity will take you towards an argument if you don’t remain humble and have your communication skills at the ready.
Cream morphed into Blind Faith and their lifespan was even shorter – one brilliant record and that was it.
“Had to Cry Today” was from the Blind Faith album and it’s a song written by Stevie Winwood. It’s been a favorite of mine for years and I had a wonderful time coming up with this arrangement featuring Leonard on vocals and a 4 piece horn section. I went wild with the modulations and one early listener said it reminded him of Frank Zappa. I’ll take it!
Here’s the band:
Peter Sprague — guitar
Leonard Patton — vocals
Danny Green — piano
Justin Grinnell — bass
Duncan Moore — drums
Tripp Sprague — tenor and alto saxophone
Steve Dillard — trumpet
Andy Geib — trombone
“Had To Cry Today” is also available on our new album project “Sunshine of Your Love.”
