H ey Folks, little did we know that we’re living in the new hurricane alley. Thrilling and glad we didn’t take a direct hit.
Speaking of hits, I’m continually adding to my sonic hits and misses over here and for this week we give you our version of “Badge.” George Harrison and Eric Clapton wrote the tune and Eric’s group Cream recorded it back in 1969. The song has this incredible guitar arpeggiated figure and also some built in jazz harmonic moves — it’s a natural starting place for my extended arrangement. Leonard is singing strong and high, brother Tripp taking a piano solo, and Mack and Duncan keeping the song levitating. This performance is from a livestream a few years back and even though we we’re in our early stages of camera gear, the sound quality is right in the pocket and ready for ear consumption. Dig it!
And continuing with our Coltrane explorations here is another cut from our Wise One album. It’s “Giant Steps” — Coltrane’s revolutionary harmonic discovery. He came up with this chord sequence that changes keys rapidly and is exciting to the ear. It’s also a real challenge to navigate. For our version I’ve added a section that comes around every now and then that offers a respite from the onslaught of rad chord changes. A breathing space if you will. Check it out.
Looking around the corner, we’re playing live at Tio Leo’s with Rebecca Jade and Planet Cole Porter. Also a special La Jolla house concert with me, Danny Green, and Mack Leighton. (We just played the same trio concert in PB pre hurricane and it was a JOY.)

many thanks, Peter
