Hi Folks,
As Carlitos Del Puerto used to say, “Bass on fire!” He was talking about the roaring bass solo that was about to launch, but I think he might also have been describing the current heat dome hovering over California. I know it’s nothing compared to what the rest of the U.S. is dealing with, but without air conditioning—bass on fire!
We had some good times at the Pacific Beach Library concert over the weekend, and one thing really stood out: the minute you walked in the door, your outlook on the world improved by 87 percent. The air conditioning was on full blast and, believe me, it felt good!
While we’re scooping up metaphors regarding the heat, let us not forget that “hot off the press” also applies to jazz journalist Jim Trageser’s recent piece in the San Diego Troubadour. In the article, he waxes poetic about all things Anti-AI, our recent recording.

For this week’s video, we bring you the opening track from our new recording, Guinnevere.
I’m a big fan of Steely Dan, and Donald Fagen’s solo album The Nightfly is one of my desert-island sonic gems. There’s a song on it called “The Goodbye Look,” where we find Fagen hanging out in the tropics. Even though the political situation is getting a little dicey, he blurts out, “Won’t you pour me a Cuban breeze, Gretchen?”
That phrase cracks me up every time I hear it, and somewhere along the way it inspired the idea for a new song, with our heroine singing, “George, won’t you tell it like it is?”
And our heroine happens to be the wonderful Danish vocalist Sinne Eeg(opens in new tab), who was touring through California at the time. We met up at SpragueLand, and she brought the song to life.
