H ello Friends of Sound,
Today we have a new video single!
A little while back I started to explore the idea of coming up with new jazz arrangements of Rebecca Jade singing songs that Whitney Houston made famous. Whitney’s one of my favorites and Rebecca said she too was super influenced by Whitney when she was coming up. The movie “The Bodyguard” had some classic songs with Whitney pulling off full on magic with her singing. “I Have Nothing” was one of the songs from that movie and this is one that Rebecca and I thought would work well with our concept.
For our version we’re swinging in waltz style, navigating the brilliant modulation at the bridge, letting Tripp on flute go full on Erik Satie on us. Rebecca sounds amazing and what a nice fit — her and Whitney.
the group:
Peter Sprague — guitar
Rebecca Jade — vocals
Alan Eicher — piano
Mack Leighton — bass
Duncan Moore — drums
This week we’re going live in realtime — first in La Jolla tomorrow (Thursday) and then in Julian (on Friday). It’ll be Danny on piano, Mack covering the low-end (bass) and me on guitar. Both concerts are free and take place in the late afternoon so you’ll still have time to make it home to dinner. Summertime in La Jolla, some inland sun in Julian. Look below for the details.
Good on ‘ya and see you soon, best, Peter
