jazz guitarist and composer
For tonight’s show we’re playing music from the world of Frida Kahlo. She was a Mexican painter known for her many portraits, self-portraits, and works inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico. She fancied classic folk songs from her homeland mixed in with Argentinian tangos and even venturing into Duke Ellington’s “In a Sentimental Mood.” Frida liked jazz!
Our angle is to add a little improvisation into the gorgeous sounds of Mexico. For this livestream concert I composed a new piece dedicated to Frida called “The Two Fridas” — which is also the name of one Frida’s most notable works of art.
The band includes some of the best with:
Coral MacFarland Thuet — vocals
Beth Ross Buckley — flute
Fred Benedetti — guitar
Mack Leighton — bass
Peter Sprague — guitar
It’ll be fun and I sure hope you can tune in.
all best, Peter
