George, Tell it Like it is…

Greetings Friends of Sound,

We’ve got some good things going on here in Cali including picture perfect summer weather, warmer than usual ocean waves, little gigs with enthusiasm for miles, and finally bean burritos that are still somewhat affordable. Good times in Encinitas!

I’m a big fan of the band Steely Dan and Donald Fagen’s solo venture “Nightfly” is one of my desert island sonic picks. There’s a song on there, “The Goodbye Look” where we find Fagen hanging in the tropics and even though the political situation is getting dicey he blurts out, “Won’t you pour me a Cuban breeze, Gretchen.” That phrase crack’s me up every time I hear it and this then led me to come up with a new song where the heroine sings, “George, won’t you tell it like it is?”

The heroine in my song happens to be the wonderful vocalist from Denmark, Sinne Eeg, who was doing a tour run through California. We met up at SpragueLand and she brought the new song to life. The lyric is by Randy Phillips.

Peter Sprague — guitar
Sinne Eeg — vocals
Danny Green — piano
Justin Grinnell — bass
Duncan Moore — drums

We’re going live and in person this Sunday at the Encinitas Library at 2pm. It’ll be Rebecca Jade singing, Tripp playing sax, piano man Danny, bass-o-phonix Mack, Duncan drumming, and me laying down the guitar lines. The musical angle is The Beatles and Beyond and it’s a guaranteed good time for all. Come early, it’s a free gig and loads of folks like coming to the concert.

“Won’t you pour me a Cuban breeze, George”…adios, Peter
