Other Info | Gig with Billy Childs! When jazz pianist and composer Billy Childs was 11 years old, his older sister introduced him to the work of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame singer-songwriter Laura Nyro (1947-1997). Nyro’s blend of Broadway inspired melodies, jazz improvisation and socially conscious lyrics have stayed with him. Now Childs has returned to his early source of inspiration for conceiving and orchestrating his latest project. He’ll be joined by two electrifying young vocalists: Alicia Olatuja, who first grabbed the national spotlight when performing as the featured soloist with the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir at President Obama’s 2013 inauguration; and Moira Smiley, a singer of many talents who tours with the Irish music powerhouse Solas, Indie artist tUnE-yArDs, The Lomax Project, Billy Childs, and leads her own group, moira smiley & VOCO. |

Please recreate this Laura Nyro gig in
North San Diego. Nyro was my all-time
favorite…I’ve still got all her albums.
(Phoebe Snow too.) Maybe Leonard
Patton could rework the songs to fit his style?
Hey Lorinda! Love your enthusiasm and wish you could make the Nyro gig in D.C. this week. She’s one of my favs too!
Oops….forgot to add this.
I would max my credit cards and fly all the way to D.C. To hear you guys recreate Nyro’s “You Don’t Love Me When I Cry!”
