D ear Readers, I’m still defrosting from a morning surf session up here in Leucadia. It’s so warm outside right now but this morning was all about keeping the shiver factor at bay. Crazy how some of the best weather in California is in the winter.

It turns out that both of the indoor concerts we’ve been working on have sold out but there is an outdoor version that’s open to all of you.
On December 24 at 1pm we present our annual Christmas Eve concert featuring an entourage of spirited and gifted musicians. We’ve been doing this event for 45 years now (can you believe it!) and it’s a mix of great music, super cool friends, family, and new acquaintances. Together we rally in the lofty life of a California Christmas with no snow but tons of good vibes.
Winter is upon us and all we can think about is the warmth in the southern hemisphere and Antonio Carlos Jobim. The bossa nova is alive and well over here at SpragueLand! Our thought for this holiday concert is to pair Jobim with Charlie Brown, (from “Peanuts” fame), and with this combination we’ve got infinite possibilities to go mental into the aural realm.
The first stop is how jazz, Vince Guaraldi, Charlie Brown, and Christmas music met up and changed the landscape of the holidays. For the better we think and it’ll be a hoot sharing “Christmas Time is Here,” “Christmas is Coming,” and our blues tinged version of Vince’s “Linus and Lucy” with you.
Mix in some Jobim classics like “Triste,” “Agua de Beber,” and “The Girl From Ipanema,” and I think we’re geared up for a magical concert.
News Alert:
This year we’re hiring a sound company so that they make us sound good and deal with the ten thousand cables and all we have to deal with is the ten thousand notes and make them turn into magic. This is the way it should be, heck I’m 69 years old now!
We’re asking for donations to help pay for this (all of the musos are donating their efforts for this concert) and if you’re inspired we’d welcome your contributions.
The financial exchange can happen in a few different ways:
Paypal: petersprague@sbcglobal.net
(It’ll show up as Satyam Music, that’s my music company)
Be sure when asked “Paying for an item or service” to hit the Change button and select the “family or friends” option to bypass the fees.
Venmo: @PeterSprague (make sure it’s the account with my picture)
Zelle: Peter Sprague peter@petersprague.com
mail checks via snail mail to:
Peter Sprague
311 East Glaucus St.
Encinitas, CA 92024
and finally “old school” cash works too on the day of the concert into the tip jar.
It’s a long lasting tradition of ours to present these shows (it all started in 1978, over 40 years ago!) If you’re so inclined, click here to read a story about the early days in Del Mar when we played our first holiday concert.
This article is from the Del Mar Sandpiper Newspaper.
You can bring the whole gang, bring the relatives, meet strangers that are friendly and meet musicians that are strange. This is how we do Christmas in Cali!
See you there!
