Hurricane Marie is doing some fancy things with the ocean waves and I’m coming to you right now with salt water dripping into the computer keyboard. What a day of H20 3D blue tinted time traveling!
As kids we grew up with The Beatles —the best music ever and their songs completely orchestrated our every move through life. “Can’t Buy Me Love” and “I’ve Just Seen a Face” in the early days and then it shifted into psychedelia with “Lucy in the Sky” and “Strawberry Fields.” I love the entire spectrum of where they traveled with sound, (in just 7 years they went from the innocent “Please, Please, Me” in 1963 to the visionary “Let it Be” in 1970).
And then years later at a Pat Metheny concert Pat ended an incredible evening of his music with a solo guitar version of “And I Love Her.” It was an ultra charged moment and I realized the magic of taking Beatles songs (with such strong melodies) and coming up with new jazzified versions. I’ve been doing this now for years and have a cool collection of my own arrangements of their music. That’s what’s on the menu for this week’s upcoming livestream show. Tune in on Thursday night at 7:30pm.
The band includes some of the best with Leonard Patton on vocals, Tripp Sprague on sax and flute, Danny Green on piano, Mack Leighton on bass, Duncan Moore on drums, and Peter Sprague on guitar.
Price of admission? Actually the concert is free but we will have a “virtual tip jar” complete with PayPal, Zelle and Venmo info for you to donate whatever you feel good about. Also good old snail mailing checks works too. We’d love for this to work out too.
