Backyard Jazz Roller Derby Marathon!

Hola La Gente Feliz,

I’m basking in the good life of Encinitas and have been practicing guitar parts for our upcoming Palomar College concert set for this Thursday at 1pm. The plants and flowers are happy with the recent rain and sun and this is where the music is taking place — backyard jazz roller derby marathon. Look below for the concert deets and hoping to see you there.

A box of our “Estrada do Sol —Peter Sprague Plays Jobim” CD’s just arrived in the mail and if you’re one of the last CD holdouts this might be what you’re looking for. We’re playing some of the classic songs by Antonio Carlos Jobim, all done in our own way. All of this coming about because next month we’re playing a big concert of new Jobim music and figuring that concert goers might also like our earlier set of tunes. Bossa nova bliss!

For this week’s vid we bring you “Love Theme (from Havana)”. This flowing music is written by pianist and composer Dave Grusin. For me it’s pure beauty and his blend of classical and jazz harmony is just what the good doctor ordered. The music was written for the movie Havana and this theme appears many times throughout the movie, all with slightly different variations.

This performance is from a livestream concert that we played in September 2024.

It’s included on our album “Hurricane Country — Peter Sprague Plays Grusin & Klugh” now available on all streaming platforms.

Here’s the band:
Peter Sprague — guitar
Danny Green — piano
Justin Grinnell — bass
Duncan Moore — drums
Tripp Sprague — flute

Good day sunshine and see you around, Peter
