All Loud on the Western Front!

Hello Friends,

All loud on the western front including the pacific wild blue stirring up some surf and the loud speakers at SpragueLand mildly blasting Coltrane mixes.

It’s an irresistible blend!

Jazz blues is a whole universe of harmony with seemingly endless variations and melodic pathways. For me it always stays fresh. When I practice I scoot through blues changes and trance out for hours.

This week we’re adding another single song video up on YouTube and it’s a Coltrane gem called “Some Other Blues.” On this song we play the head and then each take solos. For the eight bar trade offs with drums near the end we use Coltrane’s lines in unison to keep his spirit in the song.

This performance first appeared on our John Coltrane livestream from SpragueLand and the audio cut is also available now on all of the streaming services.

Peter Sprague — guitar
John Opferkuch — piano
Tripp Sprague — sax
Justin Grinnell — bass
Duncan Moore — drums

Going live this week in Pacific Beach and it’ll be Danny, Mack, and me stirring it up on Saturday late afternoon. We’re at the Library and it’s a free for you gig. Super fun and we’ve got a few new songs worked up. Come on out!

There it is folks and thanks for reading along, best, Peter
